Why Hemp Seed Oil ? !
The oil in hemp seeds is 75-80% polyunsaturated fatty acids (the good fats) and only 9-11% less desirable saturated fatty acids.
Hemp seed oil is considered the most unsaturated oil from plants. Our bodies require the essential fatty acids found in hemp seed oil more than any other vitamin, but we don’t naturally produce them. We must obtain them from external sources in our diet. Essential fatty acids play a crucial role in producing energy throughout the body, and without them, life is not possible.
The Western world population generally lacks essential fatty acids in their diet due to a high consumption of animal fats and processed foods, as opposed to plant fats and natural organic foods.
Hemp seed oil is known as “Nature’s most perfectly balanced oil” because it contains the ideal 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 (linoleic/LA) to Omega 3 (alpha-linolenic/LNA) essential fatty acids, which is necessary for long-term healthy human nutrition. It also contains smaller amounts of three other polyunsaturated fatty acids: gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), oleic acid, and stearidonic acid. This combination of essential fatty acids is unique among edible oil seeds.
Numerous studies have shown that many common illnesses are linked to deficiencies or imbalances of specific fatty acids in the body. Symptoms often arise from a lack of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and their derivatives, known as postaglandins. People who consume a balanced diet with essential fatty acids tend to have healthy skin and a strong immune system. However, some individuals may experience deficiencies in specific fatty acids or their metabolites due to enzyme system dysfunction, inhibitions in metabolic pathways caused by genetic, immune-system-related, or environmental factors. Clinical studies have proven that dietary supplementation with essential fatty acids or their metabolites, such as GLA, can often prevent or even cure these illnesses. Since hemp seed oil contains both essential fatty acids in the desired balance and provides two essential fatty acid metabolites, it serves as a valuable resource for preventing and treating certain illnesses.
Hemp Seed Oil Benefits
Hemp seed oil offers numerous health benefits. It provides essential amino acids to the body, both in its raw form and in various products. Deprivation of these amino acids can lead to serious issues such as genetic mutations and cancer. Fortunately, hemp seed oil contains an abundance of essential and non-essential amino acids, making it beneficial for cancer patients. Regular use of hemp oil increases the chances of a cure. Therefore, incorporating hemp seed oil into your routine is highly advantageous for multiple reasons.
1. Hemp Seed Oil Can Lower the Risk of Heart Disease
Hemp seed oil is believed to prevent a wide range of heart conditions due to its fat profile. In a 2007 study, researchers found that the oil has the ability to prevent blood clotting, which could be beneficial in protecting against clot-induced strokes and myocardial infarctions.
Another study concluded that hemp seed oil may offer significant protection against stroke. Additionally, a recent analysis by the American Chemical Society revealed that the oil’s high levels of omega-3 fatty acids can have beneficial physiological effects in preventing coronary heart disease.
Specific sterols found in hemp seed oil, known for lowering cholesterol and platelet aggregation, are responsible for its potential in preventing heart problems. The oil also contains tocopherols, which reduce the risk of degenerative heart diseases and various other conditions.
2. It Can Help To Balance Hormones, Reduce PMS & Menopause Symptoms
In the 1980s, scientists made a significant discovery about hormone-like compounds called prostaglandins and their role in bodily functions. Prostaglandins assist in muscle contraction, regulate body temperature and inflammation, and perform other essential functions. Hemp seed oil contains a rich amount of GLA (gamma linolenic acid), which is a crucial building block for certain prostaglandins. Researchers have concluded that supplementing with GLA is vital for optimal hormone health and has proven beneficial for many women suffering from PMS.
Studies involving women with PMS have shown that daily intake of one gram of essential fatty acids, including 210 mg of GLA, led to a significant reduction in symptoms. Additionally, evening primrose oil, which is high in GLA, effectively decreased symptoms for women who had previously tried other PMS remedies without success. It alleviated irritability, depression, breast pain, and fluid retention associated with PMS.
Due to its high GLA content, hemp oil has also shown promise in reducing menopause symptoms, as indicated by several studies.
3. Use Hemp Seed Oil To Reduce Inflammation
Hemp seed oil consists of various plant sterols and alcohols, which have demonstrated the ability to reduce inflammation, a common factor in numerous diseases. A study conducted by the University of Mississippi Medical Center and published in the Free Radical Biology & Medicine Journal discovered that cannabidiol (CBD) effectively mitigated the impact of inflammation on oxidative stress. This reduction in oxidative stress lowers the risk of organ damage and dysfunction. Both oxidative stress and inflammation are contributors to several diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerosis.
4. Hemp Seed Oil Relieves the Pain of Arthritis
In addition to reducing inflammation, hemp seed oil has been linked to alleviating arthritis pain. A study published in the Journal of Arthritis and Rheumatism demonstrated that consuming GLA from hemp seeds resulted in a 25% reduction in arthritis symptoms. In comparison, the placebo only reduced symptoms by 4%. The effectiveness of hemp seed oil can be attributed to its high GLA content, optimal ratio of omega-3/6 fats, and other anti-inflammatory nutrients.
5. It May Prevent Some Forms of Cancer
Hemp seed oil, with its ideal fatty-acid profile of omega-3 fats and GLA, offers cancer prevention properties by naturally balancing inflammation levels and strengthening the immune system. The same 2007 study that identified hemp seed’s potential protection against heart disease also highlighted its ability to help prevent cancer.
In The British Journal of Cancer and the journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, researchers reported that consuming hemp seeds containing THC, the psychoactive component, improved advanced stage breast cancer. Moreover, this consumption showed potential in halting or even reversing glioblastoma multiforme, a deadly form of brain cancer.
6. Use Hemp Seed Oil To Heal Skin Conditions
Hemp seed oil possesses healing properties for skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rashes. Its fatty acids influence immune responses, promoting the healing process. This is attributed to the oil’s ideal balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.
To experience the best relief, it is recommended to use hemp seed oil both internally and externally. Studies indicate that consuming the oil enhances essential fatty acid levels in the blood, accelerating healing from within. Additionally, applying hemp seed oil topically alleviates dryness and itchiness, reducing the reliance on medications.
7. Hemp Seed Oil For a Healthy Complexion
Hemp seed oil enhances the complexion, providing a beautiful appearance to the skin. It is easily absorbed and moisturizes without leaving a greasy residue. Additionally, the oil possesses cleansing and detoxifying properties, while promoting even skin tone.
Unlike heavier oils, hemp seed oil nourishes dry skin without clogging pores. It serves as an excellent moisturizer that doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue. For those seeking a non-greasy and effective moisturizing option, hemp seed oil is a fantastic choice.
Moreover, hemp seed oil closely resembles our skin’s natural lipids, enabling it to deeply moisturize both the epidermis and subdermal layers by penetrating the cells.
8. Use Hemp Seed Oil To Treat Acne
You might not think that using any kind of oil would be good for treating acne. However, because of its light consistency, hemp seed oil is actually fabulous for acne-prone skin. As mentioned above, it’s not greasy at all.
One great way to use hemp seed oil is as a carrier for other skin-healing oils. Add a few drops of neem oil which can help to heal acne marks and prevent scarring. You can also add a couple of drops of lavender oil which will further soothe inflammation. This concoction will help clear your skin without clogging pores.
9. Hemp Seed Oil Supports Weight Loss
Substituting hemp seed oil for other oils in your diet can even help you lose weight. This effect is due in part to its rich nutrient content and healthy fatty acids. Also, according to multiple studies, including a 2007 study published in the Journal of Nutrition, the oil’s GLA content supports weight loss. GLA works as a natural appetite suppressant to help you feel full longer. GLA also reduces sugar cravings to help lower your overall calorie intake, as well as to curb inflammation. Try adding hemp seed oil to a smoothie in the morning to help curb excess hunger throughout your day.
10. It’s A Great Source of Plant-Based Protein
Vegans and vegetarians sometimes have a tough time getting enough protein in their diets. Adding hemp seed oil is a great way to accomplish this as it provides a similar amount of protein to eating meat. In fact, about 25% of the calories from the oil comes from protein.
The oil is also considered to be a complete protein source, something that’s very rare in the plant kingdom. (This means that hemp seed oil offers all of the essential amino acids, as mentioned previously.)
11. Use Hemp Seed Oil for Beautiful Hair
Hemp seed oil offers benefits to the hair as well. As such, there are many recipes for homemade shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products which call for the oil. Using hemp oil on the scalp can help improve blood circulation and prevent scalp infections. This results in stronger, healthier and longer hair growth. It also helps to thicken the texture of hair, prevent dandruff, and reduce hair loss. When used directly on the ends of the hair, it can moisturize and strengthen strands to prevent breakage.
