Why Hemp Seed Oil ? !

The oil contained in the hemp seed is 75-80% polyunsaturated fatty acids (the good fats) and only 9-11% of the less desired saturated fatty acids.

Hemp seed oil is reputed to be the most unsaturated oil derived from the plant kingdom. The essential fatty acids contained in hemp seed oil are required in our diet more than any other vitamin, yet our bodies do not naturally produce them. They must be obtained from external sources in the food we eat. Essential fatty acids are involved with producing life’s energy throughout the human body and without them, life is not possible.

In general, the western world population have a high dietary deficiency in essential fatty acids due to our high intake of animal fats versus plant fats, caused by our high consumption of processed foods and meats versus natural organic foods.

Hemp seed oil has been dubbed Nature’s most perfectly balanced oil, due to the fact that it contains the perfectly balanced 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 (linolei/LA) to Omega 3 (alpha-linolenic/LNA) essential fatty acids, determined to be the optimum requirement for long-term healthy human nutrition. In addition, it also contains smaller amounts of 3 other polyunsaturated fatty acids in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), oleic acid and stearidonic acid. The EFA combination is unique among edible oil seeds.

Extensive studies have demonstrated that many common illnesses are related to deficiencies or imbalances of specific fatty acids in the body. Symptoms are often related to a lack of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and their derivatives, the postaglandins. Most people eating a healthful diet, one that includes a balanced ratio of essential fatty acids, also have healthy skin and a strong immune system. Yet some individuals may experience shortages in specific fatty acids or their metabolites due to dysfunctional enzyme systems or other inhibitions in their metabolic pathways caused by genetic, immune-system-related, or even environmental factors. It has been proven in several clinical studies that dietary supplementation with essential fatty acids or their metabolites (such as GLA) will often prevent or even cure these illnesses. Since hemp seed oil contains both essential fatty acids in a desirable balance while also providing two of the essential fatty acid metabolites, it is a good resource for the prevention and treatment of certain illnesses.

Hemp Seed Oil Benefits

The hemp seed oil has a number of health benefits and its products as well as its raw forms are used to provide many essential amino acids to the body. If the body is deprived of any of these amino acids there are serious problems like genetic mutations and cancer. Hemp seed oil cures cancer as the essential and non-essential amino acids are present in abundance in the oil and thus when hemp oil is regularly used by cancer patients, there are chances of cure. Thus using hemp seed oil is very useful for many reasons.

1. Hemp Seed Oil Can Lower the Risk of Heart Disease

The fat profile of hemp seed oil is believed to prevent a wide range of heart conditions. A 2007 study discovered that the oil was able to prevent blood clotting. Researchers noted that this “may be of benefit in the protection against clot-induced strokes and myocardial infarctions.”

In another study, researchers concluded that hemp seed oil may provide significant protection against stroke. And, a recent analysis conducted by the American Chemical Society found that the high levels of an omega-3 fatty acids in the oil may offer beneficial physiological effects for coronary heart disease prevention.

When it comes to hemp seed oil specifically, researchers have discovered that it is the specific sterols – organic compounds found in plants which are known to lower cholesterol and platelet aggregation – in the oil that are responsible for this potential prevention of heart problems. Hemp seed oil also contains tocopherols, which reduce the risk of degenerative heart diseases, among a number of other conditions.

2. It Can Help To Balance Hormones, Reduce PMS & Menopause Symptoms

In the 1980s, scientists discovered that hormone-like compounds known as prostaglandins play an important role in helping the body to function properly. They found that prostaglandins help smooth muscles contract, control body temperature and inflammation, and are also necessary for other bodily functions. Hemp seed oil is rich in GLA (gamma linolenic acid), which is considered to be a necessary building block from some prostaglandins. Researchers concluded that supplementing with GLA is important for optimal hormone health and may be the reason so many women who suffer from PMS have been helped by it.

In a study of women with PMS, taking one gram of essential fatty acids (including 210 mg of GLA) daily resulted in a significant reduction in symptoms. Other studies have shown that evening primrose oil, which has a high level of GLA, was highly effective in decreasing symptoms for women had tried other PMS remedies but found no relief. It was able to decrease irritability and depression, breast pain and fluid retention associated with PMS.

Because hemp oil is high in GLA, a number of studies have indicated that it may also help reduce menopause symptoms.

3. Use Hemp Seed Oil To Reduce Inflammation

Hemp seed oil contains a variety of plant sterols and alcohols. These compounds have been shown to reduce inflammation – a common factor in many different diseases. A study published in the Free Radical Biology & Medicine Journal conducted by the University of Mississippi Medical Center found that cannabidiol was helpful in lessening the impact of inflammation on oxidative stress, reducing the risk of organ damage and dysfunction. Oxidative stress and inflammation contribute to many different diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerosis.

4. Hemp Seed Oil Relieves the Pain of Arthritis

Also related to the reduction of inflammation, consumption of hemp seed oil has been associated with relief from arthritis pain. A study published in the Journal of Arthritis and Rheumatism found that consuming GLA found in hemp seeds was able to decrease arthritis symptoms by 25%. This effect was compared against a placebo, which reduced symptoms by just 4%. Hemp seed oil’s high GLA content combined with its ideal ratio of omega-3/6 fats and other anti-inflammatory nutrients, is believed to be why it is so effective.

5. It May Prevent Some Forms of Cancer

Thanks to its ideal fatty-acid profile of omega-3 fats and GLA which naturally balance inflammation levels and help to strengthen the immune system, hemp seed oil offers cancer prevention properties too. The same 2007 study that found hemp seed may offer protection against heart disease, also noted that it could help prevent cancer as well.

Researchers have also reported in The British Journal of Cancer and the journal of Breast Cancer Research and Treatment that the consumption of hemp seeds with THC, the psychoactive component, was able to improve advanced stage breast cancer. Additionally, this can stop or possibly even reverse a deadly form of brain cancer known as gliobastoma multiforme.

6. Use Hemp Seed Oil To Heal Skin Conditions

Hemp seed oil has also been found to help heal skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and other rashes. The oil’s fatty acids are believed to affect immune responses in the body which helps to promote healing. This is also likely due to the oil’s perfect balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.

For the most effective relief, use hemp seed oil both internally and externally. Studies have shown that consuming the oil helps improve blood levels of essential fatty acids which can help speed healing from within. Additionally, applying hemp seed oil to the skin can relieve dryness and itchiness, reducing the need for medications.

7. Hemp Seed Oil For a Healthy Complexion

Hemp seed oil is great to use on the skin for a more beautiful complexion. It is easily absorbed, moisturizing without being greasy. Also, the oil can help to clean and detoxify skin, as well as even out skin tone.

Unlike many other oils, hemp seed nourishes dry skin without sticking to it. Thus it won’t clog pores as easily as other heavier oils. So if you’re looking for a good moisturizer that doesn’t leave a greasy residue, you’d do well to consider hemp seed oil.

Furthermore, hemp seed oil is similar to our skin’s own natural lipids. Thus it is able to penetrate cells to deeply moisturize both the epidermis and subdermal layers.

8. Use Hemp Seed Oil To Treat Acne

You might not think that using any kind of oil would be good for treating acne. However, because of its light consistency, hemp seed oil is actually fabulous for acne-prone skin. As mentioned above, it’s not greasy at all.

One great way to use hemp seed oil is as a carrier for other skin-healing oils. Add a few drops of neem oil which can help to heal acne marks and prevent scarring. You can also add a couple of drops of lavender oil which will further soothe inflammation. This concoction will help clear your skin without clogging pores.

9. Hemp Seed Oil Supports Weight Loss

Substituting hemp seed oil for other oils in your diet can even help you lose weight. This effect is due in part to its rich nutrient content and healthy fatty acids. Also, according to multiple studies, including a 2007 study published in the Journal of Nutrition, the oil’s GLA content supports weight loss. GLA works as a natural appetite suppressant to help you feel full longer. GLA also reduces sugar cravings to help lower your overall calorie intake, as well as to curb inflammation. Try adding hemp seed oil to a smoothie in the morning to help curb excess hunger throughout your day.

10. It’s A Great Source of Plant-Based Protein

Vegans and vegetarians sometimes have a tough time getting enough protein in their diets. Adding hemp seed oil is a great way to accomplish this as it provides a similar amount of protein to eating meat. In fact, about 25% of the calories from the oil comes from protein.

The oil is also considered to be a complete protein source, something that’s very rare in the plant kingdom. (This means that hemp seed oil offers all of the essential amino acids, as mentioned previously.)

11. Use Hemp Seed Oil for Beautiful Hair

Hemp seed oil offers benefits to the hair as well. As such, there are many recipes for homemade shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products which call for the oil. Using hemp oil on the scalp can help improve blood circulation and prevent scalp infections. This results in stronger, healthier and longer hair growth. It also helps to thicken the texture of hair, prevent dandruff, and reduce hair loss. When used directly on the ends of the hair, it can moisturize and strengthen strands to prevent breakage.
